The Outdoor Experience Organization, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, is looking for several interns to work during the week of its annual fundraiser event, the Trans-Sylvania Mountain Bike Epic. The event runs from May 26-June 1, 2013, and is based 20 minutes from downtown State College, PA at the Seven Mountains Scout Camp. Intern positions will be unpaid, and all expenses including food and lodging will be covered during the week of the event.
These positions offer an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of how a complex event is managed and how a non-profit organization operates. These positions are “hands-on” oriented, and will require self-motivated individuals.
Time commitment can be, to some extent, tailored to the desires of the applicant. At the minimum, a small amount of prep time prior to the event, a full time (50+ hour) commitment during the week of the event, and a small amount of time devoted to following up after the event will be required.
Specific positions listed here, with general details following.
I. Athlete and Sponsor Experience Facilitation
Registration, Start/Finish line, checkpoints and post-race experience specialist. Assist with setup and take down of these locations. Assist with racer counts, scoring as needed. Assist in social marketing efforts and postings from course and of sponsor paraphernalia. Make sure food available at finish line, make sure all participants and sponsor attendees are well-cared for. Create (in conjunction with Social Media Interns and Photographer) daily slideshow. Create, distribute and compile post-event survey. Orchestrate registration and make all updates to database post-registration. Interact with participant social media. Send thank-you notes to sponsors.
Preferred Major: communications, business, recreation
Three positions available.
II. Procurement. Purchasing all necessary goods during race week for checkpoints, meals, volunteers, fuel, finish lines, etc. Delivering goods to appropriate personnel. Accounting for all expenditures and reimbursing volunteers for fuel, etc. Accounting for all expenditures and providing documentation at event conclusion. May be tasked with some responsibilities of Athlete and Sponsor Experience Interns.

III. Volunteer Assistant Coordinator
Course management assistant. Educate course marshals, distribute maps of courses to volunteers and racers’ support personnel. Assist in course marking and sweep.

IV. Results and Scoring Assistant:
Scoring and awards. Assist with timing, results, protest period, awards, prize selection
Preferred Major: math, computer science, engineering
One position available.
V. Social Media and Social Marketing Managment:
Web/social media/journalist. Update race website, Facebook, Twitter with race updates. Assist paid photographer as needed, focus on sponsor coverage.
Preferred Major: journalism, marketing, computer science
Video editing experience is a requirement as intern will be compiling footage for site, posting daily video shorts from the race venues, and creating post-event video(s) for marketing of the event.
Proficiency in WordPress blog management a huge plus.
The Ideal applicant will have interest and awareness of cycling.

FOR ALL INTERNS
We strongly encourage all interns to stay on-site during the event (lodging and food are provided).
Interns are expected to contribute to tasks not part of description. All interns should be ready to contribute to anything as needed and particularly to tasks such as event set-up and clean-up, daily course set-up and tear down, general clean up around camp, etc. in order to ensure the best possible experience for participants and sponsors.
Required materials for internship: laptop computer, cell phone, sleeping bag.
