The Epic Team category is designed to allow folks to race Trans-Sylvania as part of a team of two to five people. Each person does not have to race every day, allowing for days off to recover, support (or harass) your teammates, and even facilitate those who cannot commit to a full week away from work and family. Also, the Epic team category is a lot less expensive than traditional solo or duo entry. We are cutting costs by not including daily prizes and swag items for Epic Team entries. If you want to get the swag, you’ve got to pay for it separately or enter as a solo or duo rider.
For your entry fee, you’ll get fully stocked aid stations (including Hammer Nutrition products, food, water, tubes, and repair items), the chance to ride with and hang with some of the best riders in the world, a delicious banquet dinner on the final night of the event, and, of course, a tour of some of the best trails anywhere.
Here’s the deal:
- Teams can be as few as two riders and as many as five.
- Teams will all be competing with each other for the same General Classification (GC), regardless of team size. For example, teams of two will be in competition with teams of five.
- Teams will be scored based on the time of the fastest team member for each day – GC is based on total accumulated time for the week. Again, GC will be based on the sum of the fastest times earned by anyone on your team for each stage.
- At least one person on each team must finish each stage to qualify for GC placement.
- Team Category riders, unlike Duo Category racers, will not be required to ride together.
- Each Team Category rider may race as little as zero stages and as many as seven stages. As long as someone on your team finishes each stage, your team can qualify for GC placement.
- As riders will not likely be doing all seven stages, they will not be eligible for finishers’ awards.
- To keep costs as low as possible, team riders will not receive registration swag. T-shirts, jerseys, socks, etc, may be available for purchase separately.
- GC winners in the Team Category will receive a special team cup or trophy instead of the individual finishers’ medals.
- There will be a daily GC recognition, but there will not be daily prizes for the Team category.
- Food, lodging, and transport will cost the same as if racing solo (no discount).
- When registering for the team category, the team captain should be prepared to complete the registration form in its entirety for each of the team members and make payment in full for each team member. Keep in mind that RegOnline will be gathering basic personal info, selections on food, lodging, and transport as well as clothing sizes.
